Brutto
A Florentine trattoria in London
Our philosophy is simplicity and quality, authenticity and big flavours, in a fun, convivial environment. We have an all-day bar for a casual glass of wine or a perfect Negroni and a cosy restaurant with a menu full of Florentine classics.
Like many of our favourite trattorie in Florence, we don’t serve fish but we do have some vegetarian and vegan options.

Bistecca alla Fiorentina
Our signature dish
We get our 30 day dry-aged loins from Longcroft & Old in Smithfield Market. 10-12 kilos in weight they often come into the restaurant on the shoulders of white-coated meat market butchers, and sometimes we carry them ourselves. They take up to one hour to prepare for each loin and we get up to 12 T-bones per cut. We chalk up as many as we can prepare on the blackboard every day, but when they are gone, they are gone. Many people ask why we don’t prepare more, but the simple answer is that we offer as many as we are able to every day. More often than not, they don’t sell out, but sometimes they do. We can never predict demand. Best to order on arrival to avoid disappointment…
Music
We play music…
Brutto is not a silent restaurant. We play an eclectic mix of pop, rock, soul, jazz, blues, electronica and lots of Prince. With the buzz of conversation, it is often very loud.
It was always part of our philosophy to create a fun environment, somewhere between a bar, restaurant and nightclub.
If you like a quieter restaurant serving excellent Italian regional cooking, we highly recommend Vasco & Piero’s Pavilion, Luca, Locanda Locatelli, Bocca di Lupo, Ciao Bella, Trullo, The River Cafe, Bancone, and many more too.
We hope you still come to Brutto with this in mind and, for your consideration, here is our current playlist: over 25 hours of music without repetition, constantly updated and open to suggestions. Best enjoyed on shuffle…
